Description:
SOLD...Antique 1889 Marlin. 38-40 caliber. Excellent bore. Here is a real nice antique 1889 Marling rifle. S/N 65860 and made in early 1892. has the standard 24" octagon barrel. The bore is excellent. Bright and shiny with just some very minor roughness. NO pitting and the rifling is strong as new. NO rings or bulges. Mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. NO bulged cases or backed out primers. It is supper accurate as most all 38-40's are with excellent bores. I love shooting the 38-40 more than the 44-40. The barrel has about 40% blue in good lighting that is just thinning. It is NOT all plumed out. It is still showing blue. The receiver has nice traces of blue on both sides. The balance of the metal is a very nice medium brown patina that has never been cleaned on or messed with. NO pitting that I can see anywhere on the gun. Very pleaseing looking rifle here. The lever shows some fading case colors in the protected area on the sides. The front sight might be a replacement as it looks a bit newer than the barrel finish. Has a brass bead. The rear sight looks as old as the gun and is marked KINGS PAT. Not the standard sight I am use to seeing on Marlins so it might be a special order sight?? I can send close up photos of the sights if you need to see them no problem. I do not want to mis represent something as I want happy customers. The wood is very nice also. The forearm has no cracks or chips and fits tight and stands higher than the metal. Has never be sanded or cleaned on.. Has about 80% original varnish remaining. The butt stock fits tight and hight to the metal also and never cleaned on or messed with. Does show some dark staining spots from honest wear where the varnish has worn through but still retains about 90% original varnish. NO cracks, splits or repairs anywhere. Very nice wood on this one for sure. The hammer screw shows some burring but nothing bad and is still very serviceable as are the others. This gun shows honest use and NO abuse. Really an above average 1889 Marlin in a great shooting caliber. Excellent bore and very nice wood makes this a really nice ole Marlin. These antique Marlins are great sellers, collector and shooters and have got the attention of collectors more in the past several years for good reason. They are very reliable and strongly made guns and were just as big a part of the old west as the Winchesters. $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. You will not be disappointed!!!
