Payment Types Accepted: Description: Remington Hepburn 1879 patent in 45-70 caliber. The bore is shiney with clean grooves, the action is tight and opens and closes crisply. I have owned the gun since 1985 and only fired it twice. It handles well. Not much of the original finish remains and it is mostly a soft brown patina. The walnut stock looks original and shows some wear and a few small nicks. It has a checkered round knob pistol type grip. The barrel is 28 inches in length and is half round and half octagon. On the top flat of the octagon is "E. Remington & Sons Ilion NY". The 45-70 is stamped on the underside of the barrel. The three digit serial number, 2XX, is stamped on the lower metal tang of the breech and on the barrel under the foreward wood grip. I think the three digit number probably indicates it was made in 1880. SOLD Antique: Yes |
