Savage Arms .303 Savage caliber rifle. Rare Savage musket. This is a Montreal Home Guard musket, ordered during WWI by some well-to-do gentleman in Montreal. The idea was to establish a Home Guard in the event of invasion and they chose Savage muskets to ward off the Germans. The individual member’s names along with the year and the Montreal Home Guard name was beautifully inscribed on the side of the frame. At some point in time some person, probably the family of the original owner, crudely filed off 95% of the inscription. Only because we have owned two of these muskets before were we able to see enough of the inscriptions to determine that this is indeed a Home Guard musket. The filed down inscription was so ugly, we milled off the rest of the ugliness. Gun is very good plus condition and is rare as a musket. We are selling this as a musket with no additional value added as a Home Guard musket. Note the bayonet stud on the forend cap. Excellent bore and action. Stock has some minor dents and dings. This is a fine musket that won’t cost you $8,000!
