Description:
SOLD...Antique 1892 Winchester 44-40 round barrel and excellent mechanics. Very nice ole 1892. S/N 141680 and made in 1896. Has the standard 24" round barrel. The bore is very good with strong rifling and very minor light roughness. NO big pits and NO rings or bulges. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects flawlessly. Very smooth action. This gun shoots great. Both hammer notches are perfect and positive. The metal over all is a medium brown patina that still shows nice traces of blue on the barrel and mag tube in the protected areas and also some on the lower tang. The left side of the receiver has an area of minor roughness. The rest of the gun is free of any pitting. Still shows the factory machining marks on the receiver. All the markings are excellent as well. The rear sight is a newer replacement. The front sight is correct original but has had the blade replaced with a piece of what looks like ivory. The wood is in very nice condition also. All the wood fits nice and tight to the metal. NO cracks or splints anywhere and has never been cleaned or sanded on. There are a few small dings on the right side of the butt stock from honest use but no abuse anywhere. Very nice wood on this one that has never been messed with. This ole 92 is about as honest as they get save for the rear sight. It is in the most sought after caliber with a very nice bore and has never been messed with. Just the way you love to find them. Antique 92's are not easy to come by as only made for a short time period before 1898. You will be very pleased with this one. $50 insured shipping.
