Description:
Early 2nd Model Winchester 1876 in 45-75 with its original thumb print dust cover s/n is 5390 1878 manufacture. The Cody sheet lists “LID” which was a common practice on the early seconds. This one has the rarer 28” round barrel, full magazine, crescent butt with trap door butt plate, all the lettering is strong and visible. The metal is a blend of blue and greyish brown patina. No deep pits or scratches. The edges are sharp and square and is in well above average condition. The dust cover needs a new stop pin/screw. The bore is about a 6 and remains very shoot able. The right interior toggle link is an aftermarket replacement but mechanically the rifle functions fine. The wood has lost some finish and the butt has a gouge on the rear left side. Some minor dent in the magazine tube but the follower and spring work correctly. The rear sight dove tail has a Marbles blank and a later manufacture tang sight is in the factory holes.This will make a great addition to any collection
