Description:
This is a Springfield 1869 conversion of an 1863 rifle in .50 caliber. The trapdoor is marked 1869. It and the rear tang have very little of the case hardened finish left. The sideplate is marked U.S. SPRINGFIELD with an eagle on the left. The blue finish is mostly gone. The barrel is mostly patina with some pitting. the wood stock has a U.S. marked steel buttplate. The wood stock has numerous nicks and gouges.
