This is a very well used Sharps model 1874 in 44. Cal. To me this rifle screams piece of history....especially to the buffalo hunting era. This old girl left the factory some time in 1877 (159XXX) and was shipped to New York as did most of the Sharps rifles. At some point I'm sure she was shipped out West and was used by a Cowboy out on the range!! The old Cowboy used her so much that it has worn through the metal by the breech from so many cartridges being loaded. After shooting out all of the rifling the Cowboy had the barrel replaced with an earlier 1869 New Model barrel in 44 Cal........my guess being the only barrel lying around in that Old West smith's shop. The rifle is equipped with double set triggers in working condition, it levers smoothly, the barrel measures 22", and the bore is a bit rough 5/10 scale.. This old Sharps has sure seen some glory days and has seen the "Elephant".... or at least tried to shoot one!!!
