This is a handsome gun that has strong damascus striping along the barrels with some mild pinprick pitting in spots at the muzzle and towards the breech. The barrels have a faint, but visible, “Westley Richards” maker marking on the rib towards the breech and tight British scrollwork engraving on the barrel tang, on the hammers, and on the “Westley Richards” marked lock plates. Both locks are tight and function flawlessly with four parallel silver bands on the rib at the breech, and platinum blow-outs with some light pitting on the surrounding metal on both sides. Visible color case-hardening is present on the lockplates and hammers under an old coating of protective varnish or lacquer, and the silver octagonal wrist escutcheon The English walnut stock has been nicely refinished with sharp checkering, several small handling marks scattered about, and a large repaired crack at the heel of the butt on the left side. The stock is fastened by a single wedge with ornate oval escutcheons as well as an engraved triggerguard with pineapple finial and scrollwork vignette along the exterior of the bow. The buttplate has refreshed blue and has faded engraving along the top tang. The gun comes with the original brass-tipped mahogany ramrod held by two plain cylindrical thimbles and a decorated tail-pipe with stylized palm frond finial. The gun is housed in its original wooden Westley Richards labeled case with original green baize lining that has a few small holes through the lid lining and some minor discoloration on the original paper maker's label. The interior has nine compartments with some damage along a few of the side walls, and four compartment lids (three of which still have their original baize covering). The gun also comes with a full complement of period accessories: powder measure, wad-cutter, metal oil bottle, shot pouch, and game scene powder flask with patent top. This is a very well-made and attractive gun and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Westley Richards Model: Double Caliber Info: 20 ga.
