Description:
Serial #465795, .38 Special, 3” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome, 1938-made revolver that has beautiful floral scrollwork vignettes on the frame, barrel, and cylinder, as well as an additional Masonic motif on the left side: the square and compasses, “G”, and all-seeing eye. The revolver left the factory with a 2" barrel and was obviously upgraded to a 3" before the wrok was done. The revolver has 99% of the later satin blue finish applied after the engraving remaining that has not faded along many of the high edges, but does have a faint, barely noticeable turn-ring on the cylinder. The revolver is fitted with smooth, uncheckered genuine mother-of-pearl grips that are in excellent condition and the mechanism has firm lock-up and functions flawlessly. Additionally, the grip frame is signed by Alvin White underneath the mother-of-pearl: “AAW”, in neat capitals. This is a splendid pre-war Detective Special, embellished by one of America's most famous 20th century engravers, and also has a very rare Masonic decoration. FFL or C&R
