Description:

Take a step Back in Time with this LC Smith Model F hammer gun, serial number 79156.  Manufactured in 1900, it is properly restored to bring it back to the condition is would have been after a few years of use by the original owner.  Layers of old lacquer on the stock were removed, checkering was re-cut, dents and scratches removed to the degree possible while preserving the character of the gun, and multiple coats of stock oil finish applied. The original damaged forearm wood is replaced. The preparation of the action to be re-case-hardened and the barrels to be re-blued was entirely by hand. Color case hardening was done by Classic Guns in Crete, IL. The barrels were re-blued using the slow rust blue process; the bores are in excellent condition.  This gun is ready for another century of use.

Its 30” fluid (Royal) steel barrels are choked Modified (.020) and Full (.035), as opened to maximize performance with modern ammunition and utility in today's shooting sports.  If the buyer would like the chokes opened further, Back in Time will do so without charge.   The wall thickness (top/side/bottom) for the right barrel at 9” from muzzle is 030/.034/.035 and at the middle of the barrel is .034/.030/.036; the left barrel is .032/.032/.030 and .034/.037/.035, respectively.  Bores 9” from the breach are .729/.729 respectively.  The outside diameters of the barrels at the muzzle are .804/.808 respectively.   Chambers are 2-3/4 inches.  The gun locks up tight and on face; the top lever returns to right of center.  This shotgun weighs 7 lb 13 oz.  The drop at the comb is 1-3/4” and at the heel 3”.  Length of pull from the front trigger to the end of the butt plate is 14-1/4”.  All serial numbers match.

The price does not include the shipping cost paid by buyer.   The inspection period is 7 days.  This gun has been fired using standard factory 2-3/4” target loads.  However, as for any vintage shotgun and especially for a gun such as this that is 115 years old, the seller recommends that new owner have it inspected by a professional gunsmith before firing.  This gun carries a 30-day warrantee, during which Back in Time will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and the return shipping cost.  Please do not hesitate to call with questions Stephen Wesbrook, 703-625-4830; Back in Time, LLC  -- Preserving late 19th and early 20th century double shotguns.
