Description:
EARLY CIVIL WAR MILLARD U.S. MODEL 1860 CAVALRY SABER DATED 1862. 41” overall with 35” blade. Ricasso stamped “US/C.E.W./1862” and “D.J. MILLARD”. David Millard’s manufacturing facility was in Clayville, Oneida County, New York. He contracted for 10,000 swords of this pattern in December of 1861 and delivered all of them. All were dated 1862 and delivered in 1862. Typically they show use as they were all issued and saw hard wartime Cavalry service. This one is very good overall with particularly nice all original leather grip wrap and retaining wire. Dark un-cleaned brass hilt. Nice dark patina on blade and good markings and date stamp. Some small nicks. Original leather washer.
