Description:
This Colt Model 1883 12 gauge hammerless shotgun was manufactured in 1891.  Colt made the stock and forearm from high grade English walnut, and reconditioning has brought back their original beauty.  The 30” barrels are high quality Damascus steel and are properly refinished. The bores are in excellent condition.  The engraving on the receiver is deep and clear.

The barrels are choked Improved Cylinder (.010) and Improved Mod (.025).  The wall thickness (top/side/bottom) for the right barrel at 9” from muzzle is 039/.043/.036 and at the middle of the barrel is .040/.041/.037; the left barrel is .041/.040/.036 and .043/.040/.037, respectively.  Bores 9” from the breach are .735/.736 respectively.  Chambers are 2-3/4”.  The gun locks up tight and on face.  This shotgun weighs 8 lbs 2 oz.  The drop at the comb is 2” and at the heel 3-1/4”.  Length of pull is 13-1/2”.  All serial numbers, 5809, match.

The price does not include shipping costs paid by buyer.  The inspection period is 7 days from receipt.  We have fired this shotgun on the trap range using low pressure 2-3/4” shells produced for Damascus-barreled shotguns by RST Corporation.  However, as for any antique or vintage shotgun, and especially one over a hundred and twenty years old, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by a professional gunsmith before firing and then only use shells that produce pressures for which the gun was designed.  The gun carries a 30-day warrantee, during which Back in Time will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and the return shipping cost.  Please do not hesitate to call with questions Stephen Wesbrook, 703-625-4830; Back in Time, LLC  --  preserving late 19th and early 20th Century double shotguns.
