The Merrill was unique and one of the better breech loading percussion guns of it's day. This one is mechanically nice working. The bore is VG for a Civil War carbine. Bright and shiny with nice rifling. The exterior is mostly a silver grey on the lock. VG markings. Bbl is also a silver/grey with some brown. Very likely the metal was cleaned decades ago and is aging back. It does have the flip up 3-leaf sight with all leaves present. Stock is in nearly exceptional cond. Most likely it was lightly sanded many years ago and had some oil applied. These were ahead of their time with the loading system they had. Nice carbine!
