Description:
A very handsome Civil War era revolver made by the Brooklyn Firearms Company In Brooklyn, New York . The top of the barrel is marked: "B.A. Co. Patent April 14, 1863". It is .32 caliber, 5 shot with a 3" round barrel. The brass frame is engraved on both sides and on top and behind the hammer. The action is strong and the cylinder revolves as designed. The cylinder has about 70% of the original blue finish. There are only traces of blue on the barrel. It has a checkered suicide type trigger (no trigger guard to prevent accidental firing) The grips are two beautifully aged ivory pieces with stable cracks on each leading from the holding screw. The sliding sleeves on the cylinder designed to permit the loading of cartridges all work properly.
This pistol was designed by Frank P. Slocum ( the source of its model name) of Brooklyn, N.Y. The loading method was an attempt to circumvent the Rolin White bored through cylinder patent controlled be Smith & Wesson. The price includes a photo-copy of the factory 2 page instruction sheet. Only about 10,000 were made between 1863 and 1864. This one was made in 1863 and bears serial # 3159.
