Description:
Serial #234227, .38 WCF (.38-40), 5 1/2” barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some spots of mild freckling within the grooves. This is a great looking, 1902-made revolver that retains traces of the original blue finish, mainly on the barrel breech, ejector rod housing, and trigger guard, with balance of the metal having a great looking antique gray patina flecked with dark freckling. The checkered hard rubber grips are quite worn with extensive flattening on both panels and there is a large chip missing from the toe on the left side. The lock-up is still tight and the mechanism functions flawlessly. The revolver is housed in a great looking period double loop holster with thatch patter on the exterior and serrated leather concho on the seam thongs. The angle of the holster indicates that it was used as a cross-draw rig and a narrow spacer added by the original owner at the throat seems to bear this out. A stamped maker mark on the backing leather is still crisp and legible: “G.W. STITSEN/EKALAKA, MONT.” Also included with the revolver is a 1971 dated Colt Factory Letter that lists a shipping date of October 21, 1902, to Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co. of Chicago. This is a great looking first generation Single Action Army that comes with a fantastic piece of authentic western gun leather and would make a wonderful addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
