PIVOTING BREECH PERCUSSION TARGET PISTOL BY CLAUDIN OF PARIS CA. 1839. One of the earliest percussion breech loading systems invented and patented by Beatus Beringer of St. Etienne and manufactured on license by Ferdinand Claudin, the well known Paris maker. Distinctive side accessed breech loader facilitated by a rotating breech plug activated by moving the trigger guard horizontally to the right. And having a unique internal hammer activated by an external hammer. Fired a round .24 caliber ball with a small powder charge and percussion cap. 15” o/a with 9” octagon barrel etched and engraved “FD. CLAUDIN A PARIS”. Very finely engraved frame and mounts. Carved, fluted ebony stock. Excellent overall with most of the original blue and coin finish with only minor patination. Working order and excellent bore. With original greenfelt lined brass bound ebony case with maker name in gold inside lid. Original 7 cavity mold and the original accessories. Accompanied by an old document in French and English describing the gun and dated “30.7.46”.
