BRILLIANT NEAR MINT CIVIL WAR SMITH U.S. CAVALRY CARBINE CIRCA 1862-3. .50 cal. with 21 5/8th inch barrel. 100% original and complete with all proper U.S. Government Inspector’s markings. All matching serial numbers in the 7,xxx range. 98-99% original bright blue and case colors. Even has most of the brilliant blue on the screws. Stock and forend with all the original finish and a mint oval script “JH” cartouche and a nice small block letter “JH” stamp at the butt plate tang. Perfect patent stamps on frame along with crisp “POULTNEY & TRIMBLE/BALTIMORE, U.S.A.” address and “MANUFACTURED BY/AM’N M’CH’N WKS/SPRINGFIELD, MASS”. In fine working order and appears unfired with all the blue on the nipple and a mint bore with perfect rifling. The nicest Smith Carbine we have had.
