#dr001 Marlin 1893 Sporting Rifle, OBFMCB 26”x38/55, serial numbered in the 93XXX range, mfg’d in 1893, the FIRST year of this model production and having a VG+ bore (at least a “7” on a scale of 10) and fine smooth tight action. This is a really nice, untouched rifle that has seen very good care all of its long life, and has been in one family almost all of the last 122 years. It has liberal traces of both blue on the barrel and magazine as well as casehardening on the frame; probably 50% coverage of a 10-20% density of both. The wood is VG+ with only light bumps and bruises from use, the markings are fine. As is correct with the early ‘93s, it does NOT have the “Model 1893” on the rear tang nor the “Smokeless Steel” markings on the side barrel flat.For the Marlin collector who wants one of the earliest of this venerable and popular rifle, this is a VERY decent 1st year gun at a very affordable price.
