Description:
#4845 Colt 1861 New Model Navy, manufactured in the early 1870s as a 38CF and thus serialized in its own serial range (in this case, the 69XX range). These were an inexpensive way to use up all the left-over percussion parts after Colt ceased production of all the cap-and-ball revolvers in 1872 and to also quickly supply the civilian market with self contained cartridge arms. Excellent bright bore and smooth tight action, showing minimal usage and good care. The exterior retains liberal TRACES of blue and casehardening, about 50-60% coverage and a 20-30% density overall. The grips are very good but do have small chips on the toe edges and the usual bumps and dings of 140 years of use. Cylinder scene is about 75-80% intact, but it is a light roll as many of these later made scenes tend to be as the rolling dies got worn. The nice thing about these early centerfires, both the conversions and those made as a cartridge weapon is that the Colt 38CF can still be fired inexpensively by simply loading modern 38SW or 38SW Special cases with black powder. After being safety checked, they can also even be used with 38SW Short or 38Colt Short cartridges, either of those cartridges being low enough pressure with standard Smokeless powder. About VG++/Fine condition overall. $3350
