#3752, John Rigby & Co. 43 Sackville St. London W: A John Rigby Single Square Bridge Magnum Mauser Action in 375 H&H finished in October 1919, In Rigby's records as a 350 Rigby Magnum (Not the 400/350) and then recorded by Rigby as rebored to 375 H&H in 1987 by Rigby in London, It is with a 24" barrel with a band island rear sight with 1 standing & 2 folding rear sights, Front sight, Barrel band sling eye, The integral flat on the barrel cylinder to accommodate the Rigby QD front ring but it remains un-cut as does the single square bridge, This and the receiver square bridge are matted, Mauser-Werke-Oberndorf Single Square Commercial Magnum length action that carries the Mauser #35743, The action was built in 1910; The receiver, magazine box, barrel, bolt, extractor & stock all have matching Mauser serial numbers, The stock and action also has the correct Rigby serial numbers and the Mauser numbers, The barrel has both nitro proof for the 350 Rigby and then the correct 1987 London 375 H&H proof at 19 tons, Before leaving England an all steel Griffin & Howe side mount was installed with a Schmidt & Bender 4 X scope, Rigby's click adjustable cocking piece peep sight, Belly magazine with a straddle hinged floorplate with a center bow release, Wing safety for scope use, A classic Rigby pre-war stock, Trapdoor grip cap, Point pattern checkering, Steel crossbolt at the recoil lug, This gun has as good internal inletting that I have ever seen on a Rigby bolt gun, 15 3/16" L.O.P. over a steel trapdoor buttplate, 9 lbs. 4 oz. and 10 lbs. 6 oz. with the scope, Since the conversion by Rigby in 1987 the blue remains at 96%, The stock finish remains at 98%, The checkering is at 100%, The bore is new since the Rigby conversion, Before it came to the U.S. from Rigby in 1987 or 1988 they added a new leather cornered canvas full length trunk with their trade labels and a lot of accessories. Here is a solid classic Rigby Magnum that was not hunted since Rigby brought it back to new life in London. It has been in a private collection for 27 years. We also have a 275 Rigby set up identical to this 375 H&H. ////////////////////////////// From 1898 to 1912 Rigby held the exclusive British distributorship for Mauser sporting rifles, actions and barreled actions. This Magnum action is Mauser serial #35743. This action was made by Mauser in 1910; Mauser serial #35760 was a 350 as well. This is all Commercial Mauser with a Magnum action and then the British made a great open sighted game rifle to compliment this great piece of bolt rifle machinery. The Mauser Sporting Rifle and actions number about 127,000 and more than 82,000 were sold prior to WWI with a large percentage going to the British Gun Trade. /////////////// /////////////// Rigby was at 72 St. James's St from 1866 to 1907 and then at 43 Sackville St. from 1908 to 1955 and then on to 32 King Street, St James's. In 1963 the shop moved to 28 Sackville Street and in 1969 to 13 Pall Mall. In 1984 J Roberts & Son (Gunmakers) Ltd bought the company and in 1985 moved it to their premises at 5 King Street, Covent Garden. In 1987 the factory and shop moved to 66-68 Great Suffolk Street, Southwark. In 1997 the goodwill and rights to the Rigby name were bought by Rogue River Rifle Works and a new company, John Rigby & Co Inc. was formed at 1317 Spring Street, Paso Robles, California. On about March 1, 2013 John Rigby & Co. was acquired by Blaser of Germany. All connections with the unbelievable and indescribable mess in California have been severed, and the Rigby Company is back in London and run by Marc Newton and Patricia Pugh.
