A good working early 19th century Militia rifle, with a R. ASHMORE & SONS lock which functions very well. Overall length is about 57 1/2" , and the round barrel is about 42" long. Furniture is brass, and has an iron military type tulip head ram-rod. These were state purchased milit1a muskets, later converted from flint to percussion. Has a bayonet lug on the underside of the muzzle.Has inspector marked JS near the breech/top of the barrel. Metal is a smooth brown patina. Small brass blade front sight. Wood is American black walnut with numerous age dings, some age splits along the top of the stock as it meets the barrel, and one field period repair near the front of the lock.
