Description:
Serial #G37046, .303 British, 25” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a splendid 1944 dated, “M47C” marked (BSA-Shirley) rifle that has 97-98% of the original black Suncorite finish remaining with single staked scope pads, “C” stock stamp, and post-war Birmingham proofs. There is some flaking on a few of the high edges and bearing surfaces, mainly at the muzzle and on the matching numbered bolt, while the receiver has some further flaking around the “ENGLAND” stamp on the left side of the socket. The walnut stocks and handguards have crisp stamps in the armory re-applied oil finish (including the mismatched scope number on the top of the wrist) and only scattered very minor surface blemishes here and there. The rifle has a mismatched mount and an excellent Crook, Troughton & Simms marked No. 32 Mk. III telescopic sight (serial #21372) with intact painted blue “B” (bloomed lenses) on the tube behind the functional adjustment knobs. The optics are clear and the post and line reticle is crisp and intact. The rifle is equipped with a post-war commercial leather sling that has some light crazing along with mild white oxidation and verdigris at the keeper hooks, but is still supple and serviceable. Also included is a single Savage-Stevens marked magazine that has about 75% of the original blue remaining. This is a terrific example of a mismatched No. 4 (T) in excellent, shootable condition, and would make a great addition to any collection. {Ref. “The Lee-Enfield-A Century of Lee-Metford & Lee-Enfield Rifles & Carbines” by Ian Skennerton; 2007} FFL or C&R
