Description:
Serial#G2107, .303 British, 25” barrel with a very good bore that has light freckling within the grooves. This is a 1906 dated rifle that retains about 80-85% of an armory applied blue finish remaining that has gray fading along the high edges and projections, and even, mild plum-brown freckling on the balance. The correct bolt has been armory renumbered to match the rifle and is equipped with the sliding charger guide with some silvering along the bearing surfaces as well. The walnut forend, buttstock, and correct early handguards have a very dark added military oil finish over numerous minor handling marks and small surface blemishes throughout. Additionally, there is a short, with-the-grain crack on the right side of the stock running up from the wrist socket, a deeply struck “00” stores inspection stamp on the right of the butt, and a small brass collection tag at the toe of the butt. Extensive steel wire reinforcing wraps are present fore and aft of the original rear sight, and the original front and rear volley sights are still present. This is a fine example of a rare pre-World War I SMLE variant that would make a great addition to any collection either left as-is, or converted back to it's original specs. {Ref. “The Lee-Enfield-A Century of Lee-Metford & Lee-Enfield Rifles & Carbines” by Ian Skennerton; 2007} FFL or C&R
