Description:
NSN, .68 cal., 7 3/4” barrel with a good, pitted bore that has dark brown oxidation along its length. This is a large, “Mutzig” marked pistol, that has an overall freckled plum-brown patina with some mild-moderate pitting, heaviest on and around the nipple bolster. There is some further pitting and mild surface oxidation on the barrel at the muzzle and on the hammer. The brass furniture likewise has a dull yellow-ochre patina while the walnut stock is in very good shape with minor handling marks spread throughout the added oil finish with a stable, with-the-grain crack through the grip, a small armory repair on the right side of the lockplate, and deeply struck issue numerals on the left side behind the sideplate. The lock itself is tight and fully functional with faint, but legible armory markings, and the thick iron ramrod is still present. This is a very nice example of an 1822/42 pistol, and would make a nice addition to a collection. {Ref. French Military Weapons 1717-1938” by Maj. James E. Hicks; 1964} Antique
