Description:
Serial #45169, .50-70, 22” barrel with a fine, bright bore that has very minor freckling. This three groove sleeved bored carbine has 85% plus of the original blue remaining on the barrel which blends with mellow plum-brown freckling along its length and some very mild streaks of gray near and at the muzzle. The serial number on the bottom of the barrel is not discernable. The frame has about 60-65% of the original bright color case-hardening remaining with the balance turned to a mottled gray-brown patina with some light freckling throughout, mostly on the forward portion of the frame. The sling bar and ring have a bright gray patina with a few small spots of dark plum-brown freckling. The correct walnut buttstock without patchbox has a crisp cartouche. Also the proper "DFC" cartouche in the middle of the left side of the buttstock which was applied after the conversion. Stock shows minor, scattered handling marks and blemishes in the original military oil finish with a few additional marks and bruises along the belly and sides of the wrist. The walnut forend matches the condition of the buttstock and exhibits light-moderate handling marks and and bruises, heaviest around the barrel band. The action lock-up is still tight and functions flawlessly. This is a splendid factory cartridge converted Sharps carbine in fine-excellent overall condition with a great shootable bore. Antique
