Description:
#4975 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x44WCF, 61XXX range (1880), fine bore and action. The metal is extremely nice conditioned revolver for its age and far, FAR above the average for any pre-1890s gun having almost no pitting or serious wear anywhere. It retains virtually ALL the highly sought after “COLT FRONTIER SIX-SHOOTER” etched panel barrel logo clearly visible and about 85% coverage of a fine barrel blue with 70% density. The cylinder and straps are slightly less and show some dulling of the blue from probable cleaning of the cylinder and from sweaty hands gripping the handle …possibly in a “gun-fight show-down” (but far more likely just because it was a warm day for some sweaty handed cowboy). Good traces of fading cloudy grey swirls of case-colors remaining on the frame and excellent grips. The overall look on this 1880 S/A is far, FAR above what one usually sees for an old cowboy Colt ….but suffice to say this (…and this is a VERY important fact!!)…that since many, if not most Single Actions have been restored, enhanced, and/or “juiced-up” to some degree, one should always take the possibility of some degree of restoration into consideration, This gun has been valued and priced with that possibility in mind because if I were 100% certain that this gun was pure-as-the-driven-snow, it would easily be a $14,000+ gun. There are a lot of photos to this VERY desirable early Civilian S/A , so if they all don’t load (there are about 15 in all), just email me and I will forward them to you by return email. This is a real opportunity to own a really fine conditioned major piece of the Wild West frontier cartridge handgun …and one of the fastest value appreciators in the antique gun field.
