Absolutely breath taking engraving done by contract artist Cecile Flohimont covers this masterpiece. The right lock plate depicts mallards flushing out of a marsh and the left lock plate shows mallards at rest in a reed swamp. Each side has a gold inlaid 'J. Purdey & Sons' on a riband strip. The bottom of the receiver features two bobwhites flushing from a birch thicket and has the 'J.Purdey & Sons, London, England' inlaid in gold. Beautifully executed, deeply shaded scroll engraving surrounds all of these scenes and extends to the trigger guard, tang, operating lever and the Anson release hardware on the forearm. The artist's signature, "Flohimont" can be found on the trigger plate at the right side of the front trigger.

Dark on darker, finely mottled Circassian walnut is used for the straight grip English stock and splinter forearm.  Perfectly cut 28LPI checkering, with mullered borders, covers the grip surfaces on the stock and forearm and the Purdey drop points are prominent. The finish that covers this wood is impossible to describe and even the pictures have a hard time doing it justice. It is so clear and deep you just have to touch it to see if it is real. The gold inlaid oval on the toe line is blank and ready to be engraved with your initials.

This masterpiece comes in its own masterpiece custom oak and leather case. Perfectly formed compartments contain a 2 piece oak cleaning rod, 3 horn handled turn screws, nickled oil bottle, snap caps, Purdey bench cloth and the key.  The exterior is protected with eight heavy brass corners and there is a blank brass medallion waiting for someone's initials.

This is the gun that Purdey chose to represent their workmanship to the public. It is truly special. Call with any questions and see our other listings for ... "Only the best!"
