Description:
Smith & Wesson Model 3, Second Model Schofield Civilian Revolver, serial #5175 (mfg. 1876-77). Rare "Civilian" Model (without the "US" stamp on the grip bottom or inspector markings on the metal), of which only 646 were made. Condition: Bore has visible rifling but some leading and pitting; action is good and tight overall, but the extractor when fully engaged has a tendency to stick and not retract without a little help--it works fine if not put fully out (prob. a very slightly bent shaft); a very, very small amount of looseness frame to barrel; side barrel markings are good and sharp; metal finish is smooth grayish with a few light freckled pitting spots; grips are very good, but certainly are very old and high-quality replacements. I am not a dealer, just a collector. Thanks for looking.
