Description:
15-68 SRINGFIELD MODEL 1873 U.S. TRAPDOOR CARBINE

15-68Springfield Model 1879 U.S. Trapdoor Carbine barrel length 22”. Blued finish with
Casehardened breechblock and tang. Serial numbered in 100000 to 280000 range this one is serial #176381 lock markings of eagle and US/SPRINGFIELD forward of hammer. Breechblock markings US/MODEL/1873. It is noted that in order to deplete old stock of “MODEL 1873” marked breech blocks, Springfield Armory used them on earliest production, in assembly of this model 1879, which makes for some confusion in the identification. See Flaydermans explanation of the various model designations. A feature of the model 1879 is the long range rear sight; leaf style adjustable for windage and elevation, marked “C” on side.

Condition: VG Bore is bright and shiny with some rifling, somewhat worn, metal is clean with little
Corrosion on the lock. Breech block and tang are clean. Stock has numerous dents, dings and scratches but overall looks ok. (15-68) $1,300.00
