Description:
Serial #7562, .54 Caliber, 21” barrel with a fair bore that has dark freckling and pitting along its length. This is a nice looking Civil War carbine that has an overall freckled plum-brown patina on the metal with traces of original blue remaining on the barrel and a speckled gray appearance on the frame and hammer. The original bright fire blue finish can still be seen on the top tang and on the lever and breech block while the lever pin retainer has broken. The walnut forend and buttstock have numerous small handling blemishes scattered about the old added military oil finish but the cartouche on the left side of the wrist is still crisp and clear. The mechanical lock-up is solid and the action functions nicely. This is a very nice example of a Civil War Burnside in good-very good condition. Antique
