Description:
NSN, 12 GA, 38 inch barrel, fair bore. This fullstock fowler shows British inspection marks on barrel breech. The back action lock is stamped "H. Elwell" with engraved pleasant in field and double border. A little scroll work is present on rear end of lock. Metal shows a dark patina with pitting at breech around drum, barrel tang is broken and repaired with new screw, brass trigger guard has a thick dark patina. Wood is cracked on left at lock screw and on right below lock. Stock has been sanded and refinished with barrel pins replaced. Henry Elwell worked in Birmingham from 1838 to 1857. Ramrod is a period replacement. A very attractive full stock fowler that will make a great decorator.Antique
