Description:
Serial #17L9382, .303 British, 25” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This 1942 dated rifle has retained about 90% plus of the original blue finish with some mild silvering and fading at the muzzle and along the exposed edges and high points. The matching numbered bolt has a similar amount of blue present with some streaks along the now pewter gray body and some very mild fading on the handle and safety lug. The correct two-position rear sight is fitted and the rifle has neither an import stamp, nor any British proofs. The walnut stock and furniture are in fine condition with several minor handling marks and small surface blemishes marring the otherwise very good-near fine armory re-applied military oil finish. The forend and Canadian marked barrel band have been modified to accept an Indian rifle grenade sight mount. There are some faint initials scratched into the wood on the right side of the buttstock, as well as a crisp “FR” stamp as well (“FR” is an Indian rework mark, applied most likely when the grenade sight modifications were added). A single unnumbered magazine is included which is in matching condition. This is a handsome, war dated, early production Canadian rifle and rates fine plus condition overall. {Refs. “The Lee-Enfield A Century of Lee-Metford & Lee-Enfield Rifles & Carbines” by Ian Skennerton; 2007; and “India's Enfields” 4th Edition by Robert Edwards; 2003} FFL or C&R
