Description:
NSN, .45 ACP, 4” barrel with a lightly pitted, non-rifled bore. The bare metal finish has an overall mottled gray patina with patches of dark freckling and light pitting scattered throughout. There is light oxidation on the breech plate, trigger and further plum-brown pitting along the exterior of the trigger guard bow. The barrel has a smooth grind mark on the top spot-weld, and is hand stamped with a rack or inventory number ahead of the chamber: “253”. The pistol has a modern grip compartment lid that closely matches the condition of the pistol in appearance. GM Guide Lamp é manufactured the entire production of one million units in just eleven weeks. In fact, the Liberator took longer to load, fire, and reload than it did to make. They were intended to be air-dropped in vast numbers behind enemy lines to assist resistance fighters in obtaining better weapons from enemy troops, and to erode enemy morale at the thought that so many illicit weapons were possibly in the hands of the general population. They were never used for their intended purpose, but many ended up in China and the Philippines (where they were actually issued as constabulary weapons for a short time). It may be that the numbers added to this example have some connection to official use. FFL or C&R
