This is a 1918 dated rifle that was refurbished for World War II and has matching numbers on the nosecap, forend, and bolt. The metal retains about 90% of the armory applied phosphate finish that has faded to gray and silvered at the muzzle, as well as along the high edges and projections. The rifle is fitted with a later “HV/SC” marked, high-velocity barrel and has a crisp “FTR” repair stamp on the receiver (most likely applied when the rifle was overhauled and re-barreled). Import markings are present on the right side of the receiver and the magazine cut-off is still in place. The wooden stock and handguards have been arsenal refinished to fine condition and have scattered small handling dings and minor surface blemishes as well as some faintly visible sanding marks along the sides of the buttstock. The brass buttplate has a darker brown-ochre patina and the magazine retains a commensurate amount of blued finish. This is a fine World War I, armory refurbished Aussie Enfield overall. {Ref. “The Lee-Enfield A Century of Lee-Metford & Lee-Enfield Rifles & Carbines” by Ian Skennerton; 2007} FFL or C&R SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: Enfield Model: SMLE Serial Number: A5080 Caliber Info: .303 Gauge Info: .303 |
