Description: NSN, .52 Caliber, 32 5/8" barrel with a fair-good bore that has dark pitting within the grooves. This rifle has an 1837 dated breech block with an overall dark plum-brown patina that blends smoothly with the original dark lacquer "japanned" finish that remains on many of the protected areas, particularly along the sides of the breech block. Some worn gray metal is also visible, mainly near the muzzle and on the breech block guides. There are some scattered areas of pitting (heaviest at the breech of the barrel) and mild freckling present along the exposed portion of the barrel. The rifle has been expertly converted by smoothing out and flattening the pan area then adding both a nipple and a percussion hammer. The walnut stock has been lightly sanded along the sides and forend (the underside has not been sanded and has deep, raised grain on the flats). There are scattered minor surface marks and small blemishes within the period added military oil finish and the cartouches are no longer visible. The rifle comes with an original ramrod and the breech lock-up is still quite tight while the mechanism functions flawlessly. This is a fine example of a late production Hall that was arsenal converted to percussion. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: U.S. Model: Hall Caliber Info: .52 Cal Gauge Info: .52 Cal |
