Chambered in 40-60 caliber, it has a 28" octagon barrel and is serial numbered 1976. Assumed to be 1882 production, available records start in 1883 at SN: 4001, 1881 production numbers by several authors are listed at 600 to 800. Third Style Lettering on barrel, which contains: REISSUE NOV. 9, 1880. Rifle was made using a Burgess Patent and other patents. Bore is shootable, with strong rifling, frosting and some pitting. Metal shows large amount of original blue remaining. Wood is original with some oil/varnish build up. Overall, this a very nice condition antique rifle.
