Description:
German hunting rifle built on a Mauser 98 action by Bernhard Merkel of Suhl. It is in the 8x57J caliber with a 318 dia bore. The rifle features an octagon to round barrel with a full rib. It has one standing and one folding rear sight, and its forward sling swivel mounted underneath on the barrel. The bore is gray and the rifling is rounded but still clear and strong. The bluing is all original and has faded in spots to a nice patina. The trigger guard and floor plate are lightly engraved with a floral scroll pattern, and the floor plate has the release lever. The double set triggers work just fine. The action has never been drilled or tapped for a scope. The action is also lightly engraved with the same scroll pattern. The stock has a cheek panels for the action and a wedge through the forearm. The bolt handle is the traditional Mauser pear shaped style with two checkered panels. The stock is beginning to chip out behind the upper tang, and splinters are missing from under the bolt handle, and under the bolt release lever on the left side of the action. The pistol grip has press mark into the checkering. The butt plate is made of buffalo horn. Credit cards add 3%, we offer a 3 day non-firing inspection period.
