Description:
Colt Model 1878  "Frontier Six Shooter" DA Revolver - Cal. .44-40 - 7 1/2" Bbl. - SN 38XXX(1898) - all matching numbers - ANTIQUE.. .  Bore is near excellent - bright and shiny  with sharp rifling - has a spot of light roughness in sort of a "ring" pattern about 3" from the muzzle that appears simply as a rough spot.  Action is excellent with perfect timing and lock-up.  Metal is about excellent overall - there is some light surface pitting on the top edges of the frame just above the cylinder and some very light rust spotting in the cylinder flutes.  Barrel retains 95% blue - ejector housing about 90% with some thinning - cylinder has 85% thinning blue -  frame 90% overall with thinning in spots and on the backstrap.  Hard rubbergrips are excellent and undamaged and show virtually no wear at all. This  model Colt DA was made from 1898 to 1905 and was a popular heavy  DA revolver in the early West and reportedly favored by Capt. Jack Crawford and Wm. F.Cody.  This one is all original, fully functional, and in just about excellent condition overall. A fairly hard to find and desirable  early Colt DA especially with the 7 1/2: barrel .
