Description:
I inherited this obviously RARE Sharpshooters rifle...it is believed a Confederate captured sniper rifle !...This formerly had a long scope mounted on it..for a Union Sniper(sharpshooter). This is  a N.Lewis Sniper Rifle . The style/configuration-sights/stock & mountings etc. of his work... his name is obscured by the rust on the barrel. There is a stamping on the top barrel flat of "Recut by S.Gardner/Scranton,PA"...it is he who filled in the barrel dovetails and  to mount  the diopter sight. . The Orig. barrel is 29-1/2in. and 1-1/4in. across the flats...rifle weighs over 16lbs. about the same as a bowling ball ! A serious rifle with an intended purpose..! The barrel front is round for approx.1-1/2in. for a false muzzle although barrel was never designed for such.. The bore is rusty as is the exterior. The wood is ORIGINAL and w/nice figure and NOT sanded/varnished ..NO repairs either..a large gouge is near the rear right side of stock. The furniture is original to the rifle. This rifle is difficult to price accurately...but being that I inheirited this beauty from the Civil War..I am placing a VERYFAIR price of $1995.oo well under the price for a treasured Civil War weapon +$50.oo S&H to ConUSA. This is also sold "As-IS"..NO warranty expressed nor implied..IT IS 150years old...and still functioons nicely. NOTE: I am a descendant of CSA Gen.Bragg (my grandmothers maiden name..her great Uncle)..and this is from my grandmothers belongings...I do not know how it became her possession...lost to history..so be it..! Regardless.....if you are a civil war collector...I doubt you will find another at such a great price..! It is also offered for sale in a storefront display.
