Description:
This 25 inch bayonet is one of 86,234 pattern 1876 bayonets converted at Enfield from 1895 to 1902 for use on the 303 caliber Martini Enfield rifle. The filled in slot is clearly visible on right side of socket. This bayonet was later used in Egypt, scabbard shows Arabic markings on throat. Blade has stains with small areas of light pitting. Shank and socket have evenly pitted surfaces. Scabbard remains solid with one rivet missing from tip and a seam separation. REF page 176 of British & Commonwealth bayonets by Skennerton & Richardson.
