Description:
Serial #8300, .50 Caliber, 21 1/2" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has a small amount of freckling within the grooves. The barrel has much of the original blue remaining which blends with smoothly with a plum-brown patina and has some very mild fading at the muzzle and along the edges of the breech facets. The frame has traces of the original bright color case-hardening still visible (mostly around the nipple bolster) with the remainder of the metal retaining a period added white metal plated finish that has bubbled slightly in some areas. There are patches of brown freckling throughout as well as abrasion marks from a past cleaning and the hammer and sling bar and ring are mostly a lightly freckled gray color. The barrel lock spring retains most of its original bright blue and the brass opener has a pale yellow patina. The walnut stock and forend have an excellent added military oil finish with scattered small handling marks and blemishes as well as crisp inspector cartouches on the left side of the wrist. The barrel lock-up is rock solid and the mechanism is fully functional. This is a interesting Smith with an unusual plated finish and is in fine-near excellent condition overall. Antique
