Perfect bore - bright and shiny with sharp rifling and bo signs of corrosion - Excellent tight action. Metal is excellent overall with no rust, pits, or corrosion - part of barrel and the hammer look to have been "toned" a little, blending into the original blue which is about 85+ with some thinning - sharp markings throughout = breechblock is marked "US Model 1873" and retains about 25% case color. Original carbine front and rear sights - perfect screws - sharp "VP" and "R" inspector markings on barrel, Wood is excellent, undamaged, and retains 90% + finish - sharp "SWP 1880" cartouche plus another cartouche on the underside of the butt stock with which I am not familiar - also, initial "GH" and "82" on left side of buttstock - possibly a trooper initials and rack number. Buttplate retains about 30% thinning blue - and a 3-piece cleaning rod is in the butt well that appears to be an original. A very sharp and crisp 1879 SRC in perfect working order and except for possible touch-up, all original and in overall excellent condition. A fine example of an Indian War period Springfield carbine that will make a fine addition to an early West collection. SOLD Antique: Yes |
