Description:
Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are extremely proud to offer this fine Winchester with an extremely rare special order feature-a saddle ring on a rifle. Madis mentions this rarity in the Winchester book, all in one sentence, while other features sometimes fill a page. Made in the year of our Lord 1886, this was the last hurrah for the Centennial gun, as the more modern model of 1886 replaced it as the powerhouse of the Winchester lineup. This rifle is in amazing condition. The finish may be gone, but the clear and sharp stampings are the best I have seen on a '76, even on the brass cartridge elevator. The edges of the steel are much better than usual, the action crisp, and even the bore has considerable shine and good rifling. I fired this big gun 4 times, and it was an absolute pleasure. The group was good, too. The wood is a good fit to the steel, with some handling marks and oil spots. I peaked at the innards, and the links were very clean and lovingly lubed. I suspect that the saddle ring may mean that this rifle was protected in a scabbard and used little. The left side of the tang bears assembly number 1544, as does the tang channel and butt plate. That usually indicates the type of special order on a particular gun. This lever gun is also fitted with a rear ladder sight, graduated from 200 to 1000 yards. That is quite optimistic, even for the potent 45-60. the action works as designed, including the half cock safety. If only there were some buffalo around. This rifle is on consignment from an old and respected collector, and we agreed to list this rifle at an ordinary price for an 1876. If you have been looking for the right Winchester 1876, with the added clout of a rare special order feature and high condition, then look no further.
