General Specs: Holland & Holland, Year 1896, 12 Gauge, 6 1/2 lbs , Side by Side Serial Number: 17341 If you want to start a vigorous debate, ask a group of experienced double gun enthusiasts "what maker builds the finest double shotgun in the world?". There will be a variety of opinions with vigorous defenders, but Holland & Holland will be included in the debate. Building fine sporting arms since 1856, there is little doubt that H & H will always land in the top 5 BEST GUN makers in the world. This gun, sn17341 built in 1896, is a perfect example. 119 years old and still in perfect mechanical condition and gorgeous in the way of fit and finish. Weighing just 6lbs. 9oz. and balanced perfectly 1/8" ahead of the hinge pin, this is the gun that DEFINES DYNAMIC HANDLING IN A 12 BORE. With perfectly struck 30" barrels, mirror bores choked cylinder/LM (.000/.016), plenty of wall thickness at 25 thou right, 24 thou left and strong, well timed ejectors, this is the side by side shooter's dream gun. When you look at used Holland & Holland guns you expect to see price tags that begin at $25K for a well worn gun. Look at this gun, with the gorgeous figured original wood, perfect wood to metal fit, factory single trigger, great stock dimensions with 14 3/4" LOP from the rear position single trigger, about 30% faded case color, excellent screws...then look at our price. Quite the bargain! You can invest in one of the finest guns on the planet at a reasonable price and shoot a name that is world renowned for quality and prestige. The reason is that the chambers have been extended to 2 3/4" and the gun was proofed at 2 1/2". The gun is still perfectly safe to shoot with 1 1/8 oz. loads, as there is plenty of wall thickness and the gun is healthy. We can send it back to England for reproofing this summer for a total cost of $3000 and then the gun is worth over $25K, but we thought for a shooter looking for a great gun at an affordable price, this would be one for him/her. We also avoid the 3 month turnaround time. Reproofing can be done at anytime, and the increase in value would be money in the new owner's pocket. A great gun and a great investment opportunity.
