John Rigby & Co. London .470 Nitro Express Double Hammer Class C Rifle. Jones underlever back action. Excellent working condition; finish is fine plus. Rifle weighs 11 pounds 1 ounce and the barrels 6 pounds 4.6 ounces, some original case colors remain. Bores are very good and locks up as new. Minor localized pitting on the breech face. Checkering is crisp, stock is solid and wood to metal fit is very very good. Length of pull to front trigger is 14 1/2", to rear trigger 13 3/4", and drop to tip of recoil pad is 3 1/2". Three rear sights. Original Rigby book copy indicates delivery 1-24-1919 to J.T. Hartwell. On the buttstock just behind the pistol grip cap there is a 3 digit number stamped, this normally means the rifle was used in India and probably came from a Maharaja's armory. An original classic dangerous game double rifle from the golden era, chambered in one of the best and most widely used calibers of today. Cased in original oak & leather case refurbished by Marvin Huey with ebony cleaning tools, brass oil bottle, brass cleaning rod, and brass snap caps. Case with accessories alone was over $2500.00. Rare nitro proofed back-action double from the heyday of British double gun production. Obviously custom ordered by a customer who wanted a dangerous game gun that couldn't fail, very unusual action for this time period. Email for additional photos.
