Here's another extremely rare WW I French sniper. What is really unique is that this sniper is totally correct with the Winchester No. 5 Scope and the correct Winchester Cricket Mount. The gun is referenced The Great War Snipers. Apparently the French had trouble securing enough scopes to fir their wartime needs. They gave a contract to Winchester for the scope and the Cricket mount. The author feels that the cricket mount was necessary to allow the scope to slide. This allows full operation of the straight bolt handle. The gun retains about 90% 0f the original factory finish. The loss is primarily on sharp edges, barrel bands and the patinated butt plate. The bolt handle which is in the white does have a few small areas of pinpricks. It is not numbered to the gun and appears to have been renumbered in the past. There does not seem to be any rust or pits elsewhere to be concerned about. The stock has been re-lacquered with about 85% remaining. The wood does show numerous nicks and dings. No splits or cracks however. The Winchester scope and Criciket mount are in super condition retaining at least 95% of their original blue. The optics are clear and bright and the crosshairs fully intact. The bore does show some wear however the groves and land are quite substantial with some modest graying. A French WW I sniper with an American Winchester scope, when will you see that again?
