Description:
Serial #1928, .577 Snider, 25 3/4” smoothbore barrel with a very good, bright bore that has mild freckling along its length. This is a handsome and nicely proportioned gun that has extensive foreign markings as well as a British “SNIDER”S PATENT” marked breech. The metal has an overall pewter gray patina with scattered small handling marks and minor blemishes throughout as well as mottled dark brown freckling that gets darker at the edges and on the protected areas. The sporting length barrel has a fixed V-notch rear sight mated to a well worn barleycorn style front. The action lock-up is still fairly tight and the mechanism is fully functional. The walnut stock has a single barrel band, no provision for sling swivels, and two shallow triangular checkering panels on either side of the forend. The wood is in good plus shape with scattered minor handling marks and blemishes in the sanded and re-oiled wood. A metal ramrod with soldered repair near the tip is included, and is held to the barrel under-rib by two unadorned thimbles. This is a rather nice Snider sporting gun that rates about good condition overall. Antique
