Description:
These are the empty nose and base for the 3” Hotchkiss shell that measures 6 3/4” in length and has a weight of 5 lbs. 14 oz. (2.7 Kg). According to the previous owner's notes and an old painted label on the side of the shell, it was dug at Hoover's Gap, TN. The metal has an overall rough, dark brown patina interspersed with lighter brown. The nose of the projectile portion is missing and the shell cavity is vacant. The lead driving band is no longer present which gives a nice view of the separate base section. This is an attractive shell, 2/3 complete, that has a pleasant relic appearance and would make a nice item for display, or as a decorative accent.
