Description:
Serial #166794, 12 ga. (2 3/4”), 20”, cylinder-choked barrel with a bright, excellent bore. This is an extremely rare, 1918 built, Model 12 Riot gun that has the correct, early pre-1919 "Mod 1912" barrel marking and retains 85-90% of the original blue finish that has faded and silvered along the high edges, projections, and bearing surfaces of the magazine tube. The walnut buttstock has the characteristic thin wrist that is correct for this model and timeframe, and has a fine original oil finish with scattered small handling marks and small surface blemishes. There was once a stamp or marking on the right side of the buttstock (probably a property marking of some sort; law enforcement, prison, etc.), but this has been sanded flat with a slightly glossy varnish added. The grooved forend retains its fine original oil finish. It is known that any World War I era trench or riot configuration Model 12 would fall in the 162340-190507 serial number range and have the early stock profile, just as this one does. This is a fine-near excellent example of a WW1 era Model 12 Riot; a very rare shotgun that looks great, and would make a handsome addition to any collection. {Ref: “Complete Guide to United States Military Combat Shotguns” by Bruce N.
