Description:
This New Ithaca Gun (NIG) 16 gauge hammer gun, serial number 49,756, was manufactured in 1900.  It has 30” twist steel barrels choked Modified (.016) and Modified (.016).  The barrels have 2-3/4” chambers.  The wall thickness (top/side/bottom) for the right barrel at 9” from muzzle is 040/.044/.045 and at the middle of the barrel is .047/.045/.048; the left barrel is .038/.041/.042 and .050/.050/.045, respectively.  Bores 9” from the breach are .668/.668, respectively.  This gun weighs 7 lb 11 oz.  The drop at the comb is 2” and at the heel 3”.  Length of pull from the front trigger to the end of the original butt plate is 13-1/4”.  The gun locks up tight and on face.  All serial numbers match.

This American classic gun is properly restored to bring it back to the condition it would have been after a couple years of use by the original owner.  The old finish on the stock and the forearm was removed; dents and scratches were steamed and sanded out to the degree possible while preserving the character of the gun; a stock oil finish applied; and the checkering cleaned up.  The engraving on the sideplates was recut.  The bores are bright as honed, but show artifacts of past moderate pitting.  The preparation of the metal to be re-refinished and re-case-hardened was entirely by hand.  The barrels were refinished using a traditional process of slow rust bluing and etching.  The color case hardening was done by Flat Creek Gunworks, Fort Collins, CO.

The price does not include shipping costs paid by buyer.  The inspection period is 7 days from receipt.  This shotgun has been fired using low pressure  shells produced by RST Corporation for Damascus barreled shotguns.  However, as for any antique or vintage shotgun, and especially one a hundred and fifteen years old, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by a professional gunsmith before firing and then only use shells that produce pressures for which the gun was designed.  The gun carries a 30-day warrantee, during which we will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and the return shipping cost.  Please do not hesitate to call with questions Stephen Wesbrook, 703-625-4830; Back in Time, LLC  --  preserving late 19th and early 20th century double shotguns.
